GILI ISLAND, INDONESIA: PARADISE AND BEYOND

Marcella Suarez / June 10, 2017

Have you ever wanted to be on an island surrounded by such a beauty that nature has created? Have you ever wanted to be far away from all the hustle of the city life and worries? Gili Islands are just that. Just two hours by speed boat from Bali, these islands are what a real vacation is made of. They are so amazing, and they consist of three: Gili Trawanga, Gili Air and Gili Meno. They each offer different kinds of atmosphere and it really depend on what you are looking for. One thing they do have in common though, they are surrounded by amazing crystal clear water, friendly people and overall what real paradise should look and feel like.

Gili Trawanga which is the biggest of the three is a party island. The atmosphere is pumping and it is a good place to go with a couple of friends and dance and drink your time away. You can still relax in this island but not really, I mean it is a bit of an overall wild thing. The vibe is more with big resort chains and everything is louder and bigger.

Next up is Gili Air , which is my personal favorite. It is the second biggest island of the three. It has both a party atmosphere and a relaxing chill vibe, in other words, it has the best of both worlds. It has a more bohemian vibe to it, with little huts near the water for hotels, instead of big resorts. You can relax your head off during the day, to either go snorkelling, chill by the many lovely pools your rustic hotel has to offer or just wound down in a hammock along a palm tree near the sea. At night, make sure you check out the Space Bar. It is a bar near the beach with neon lights and the best techno music the island has to offer.

Last but not least is Gili Meno. Gili Meno is the smallest out of the three islands and the chillest one. It is definitely not a party island, but rather a place where you go for a romantic getaway or just simply when you really just want to relax without thinking of any party of any sort.

Where to eat?

Don't worry about where to eat, any of these islands have amazing customer service everywhere you go, their food is too good to pass up!! Make sure you drink and try the Lombok coffee and don't worry about where to find Bin Tang (the local Indonesian beer) the good news is they are everywhere at any time of the day.

What to take into account?

The only thing you should take into account is the schedule for the ferries to and from Bali and also take into account that taxis from the airport to the port is a bit of a long way.

All of these three Gili Islands have their sparkle and shine. Whatever you are looking for, either to relax or party the night away, these islands with provide you with just that.
